German shepherd questions ! ? I just recently got a German shepherd. I have no papers on him but his owner said he was full blooded. He is 8 weeks and I was wondering when his ears will stand up Dogs - 8 Answers - 2012-02-22 23:03:12 Best Answer Look at images of German Shepherds at that age. Most stand up so soon they look like a huge bat. Cute as a button. At 8 weeks I would not sweat it.They may flop, but no tape needed unless he is not full blooded. I would have to see a good picture. The only dogs that usually need tape are Dobies, or dogs that need their ears cut to stand. Not to disagree, but 8 weeks is too young to worry unless he has other features non-German Shepherd like you are concerned with. Don't worry, be happy you own one of the smartest, most agile, loyal animals known to man. If you had a chance to see the sire and dam you can expect what size and looks he will have. They will put gause with medical tape around it to teach the ears to stand up on there own. Kind of like when they crop dogs ears but his wont be cropped. 2012-02-22 23:06:08 Answer 5 Breeds with erect ears, should be standing between 4 and 5 months but some can go up to six months. Keep in mind though it is not entirely uncommon for one ear to stand and one to remain floppy or even in some cases neither to ever stand. Also. You do not tape the ears of any dog breed that has erect ears. Taping is only done for breeds with naturally floppy ears, which have been cropped to make them stand, the taping is then done to support the ear into the desired shape as the cartlidge hardens. 2012-02-22 23:31:28 Answer 6 Look at images of German Shepherds at that age. Also, GSD ear taping is effective and it IS done because, due to the size of the ears, it isn't exactly uncommon for them to not stand properly. The vast majority do, but enough do NOT that people do indeed advocate taping their ears. You should not have to, but it won't hurt the dog if you do. 2012-02-22 23:39:58 Answer 8 agree to Beckayy 2012-02-22 23:43:31 |
